West Bromwich and Oldbury Tae Kwon Do Student awarded Best in Grading Accolade

Yufan Chen, age 10, from West Bromwich TAGB Tae Kwon Do club participated in his first martial arts examination along with ninety other students from across the West Midlands. This was the largest West Midlands grading to date with students from twelve different schools hoping to advance in their tae kwon do training and be awarded their next belt.

Yufan started training with instructor Claire Southall (3rd degree black belt) last December with his friends and family in order to improve his fitness and self defence and has really improved in his confidence since starting at the club.

The examination which is held at the West Midlands Tae Kwon Do headquarters in Dudley was hosted by World Master Vincent Farquharson (7th degree black belt) who was very impressed by the student’s standard at such a young age. Yufan was tested by World Master Paul Donnelly (8th degree black belt) who cited his excellent stances, focus and power were the reason he won the award.

Yufan passed with flying colours achieving the coveted A pass standard along with fellow student Yvonne Li from the club. Also achieving plus passes were students Zishan Cai and Riley Davies who trains at Oldbury TAGB tae kwon do. Every student put in a fantastic performance on the day and a huge amount of effort went into preparing for this grading exam.

Instructor Claire Southall is very proud of all students from the club who passed their grading. All students are all now in training for the TAGB World Championships which are to be held from the 20th-22nd July 2018 in Birmingham.

The club are welcoming new beginners to train with them at West Bromwich Leisure Centre on Saturday mornings. From more information contact Claire on 07402743284 or email claire@westmidstkd.co.uk. See www.westmidstkd.co.uk for all class details.
