The Midlands Championships 2018

World Master Vince Farquharson would like to congratulate all students who competed today in Kettering. Our students are currently in training for the prestigious TAGB World Championships which are to be held in Birmingham in July. Today’s event is a regional competition which means that attendance is normally smaller than our national competitions. However today the competitors were in excess of 900 students. This meant that our competitors had to fight through alot of rounds to win their trophies.

Gracie and Emily Bedenham were first up from West Bromwich and Oldbury. They competed in girls red patterns and performed with great technique and accuracy. The girls also competed in sparring giving good performances and narrowly missing out on medal positions.

Pav and Elena Gabrys also put in alot of effort into their red belt patterns and have gained alot of experience from this competition which they will utilise in class when they return to Oldbury TAGB.
Next up was Lauren Pope from Dudley who gave a solid sparring performance in the ladies yellow heavyweight category to take silver narrowly missing out on the gold by 1 point.
Tore Lamont from Dudley and Gillis Robbie from West Bromwich both gave their all in their respective sparring divisions throwing on point kicks and punches to win bronze in very competitive categories.

One to watch is Korben Brown from West Bromwich. Korben won his category utilising his fast kicks and intense punching combinations. He is now Midland Champion 2018.
All students from our areas will now be stepping up their sparring in anticipation for the World Championships which are on home turf.

Could you be our next World Champion?
